GOP targets Gerrymandering

The Senate Republican Caucus has launched a new Web site to support the call to end the political gerrymandering of the state.

In the spring, the Illinois Reform Commission, created by Governor Pat Quinn, had harsh words for Illinois' bizarre system of drawing legislative and congressional district boundaries, declaring that it “deprives Illinois voters of fair representation” and that “regardless of which party wins, the people of Illinois are the losers…”

Both Senate Republican Leader Christine Radogno and House Republican Leader Tom Cross have made ending gerrymandering a key priority. The website is designed to offer information to the public to increase understanding and awareness of the issue and to build support for reforming the system which is used to deny voters the ability to fairly select their own representatives in Springfield and Washington.
