Scholarship Program

The General Assembly Scholarship Program is administered in accordance with the provisions of Section 5/30-9 of the School Code of Illinois. Senator Radogno awards Illinois General Assembly Scholarships to students who have been active in public and civic affairs and who have need of scholarship assistance. The awards are applicable at the following Illinois state universities.

  • Illinois State University
  • Chicago State University
  • Northern Illinois University
  • Western Illinois University
  • Eastern Illinois University
  • Governor State University
  • Southern Illinois University, Carbondale
  • Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville
  • Northeastern Illinois University
  • University of Illinois, Springfield
  • University of Illinois, Chicago
  • University of Illinois, Urbana - Champaign
  • University of Illinois, School of Medicine
  • Southern Illinois University School of Medicine

This year, Senator Radogno has begun a new program, whereby each area school will be allowed to pick a scholarship winner.

Additionally, she has designated that two scholarships are available for students who are in private schools, or already in college.

Both graduate and undergraduate level study are acceptable. However, all scholarships are for tuition only forĀ­ one academic year.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Be a resident in the 41st Senate District*.

  2. Acceptance at the university of one's choice.

  3. Evidence of activity in public and civic affairs.

  4. Relative financial need among applicants.

*Residency in the 41st District can be confirmed online by using the Illinois State Board of Elections' district locator by inserting your home address as indicated.

Senator Radogno has established a Scholarship Advisory Committee made up of educators from throughout the 41st Senate District to review all applications and select the scholarship recipients.

IMPORTANT NOTE: A student may receive a scholarship from Senator Radogno only one time. They will not be eligible for future scholarships from her, in order to provide others with the opportunity. There is no limit on how many times an individual may apply, should they not receive one of the scholarships this year.

APPLICATION PROCESS

  • Verify that you live in the 41st Senate District. If you are unsure, you can use the Illinois State Board of Elections' district locator.

  • Public high school students should contact the school guidance counselor for an application; otherwise, print the application from the website.

  • Complete the application form. If necessary use additional pages for activities, employment history, etc. Grade transcripts are not necessary.

  • Obtain two (2) current letters of recommendation.

  • Make three (3) copies of the application, recommendations, and any additional pages. Staple them into three (3) packets and send all three (3) to:

DEADLINE

Applications must be returned to the guidance counselor or received in the Senator's office by April 15, 2009. Notification will be made shortly thereafter.
