Honoring America’s Veterans

November 11, 2009

Since our country’s inception, brave men and women have answered a call to arms in order to protect this nation. These patriots have fought, not only to defend their country, but to advance peace and equality across the globe.

Today we salute approximately 23 million United States veterans. Though we may only set aside one day to honor these men and women, we benefit from their sacrifices on a daily basis.

However, we should also take a moment to think about those who continue to serve abroad, in Afghanistan, Iraq and cities and countries throughout the world. Their selfless actions, like that of their predecessors, epitomize honor and service.

From Gettysburg to Pearl Harbor, to Normandy, Korea and Vietnam, and now in the Middle East, America soldiers have fought to protect our country and defend those in need.

This Veterans Day, please take some time to reflect upon the dedication of our United States veterans. The freedoms that we, as Americans, enjoy today are founded in their noble patriotism, unparalleled bravery, and unwavering commitment to Democracy.
