Comptroller reports serious revenue decreases for Illinois

State Comptroller Dan Hynes is reporting that compared to last year’s first quarter of the fiscal year, Illinois revenues are down by approximately $885 million.

Senator Radogno said that the Comptroller’s quarterly report notes that the significant deterioration in revenue could be attributed to the state’s increased Medicaid obligations and declining returns from the state sales tax and the corporate income tax.

Radogno observed that if the state had simply kept pace with the rest of the country in job creation during the Blagojevich administration, the decline may not have been so drastic.

Illinois House rejects majority of Governor's budget vetoes

On Tuesday, October 2 the Illinois House voted overwhelmingly to override almost all of the Governor’s line-item vetoes and reductions to the budget, which was approved by the General Assembly in August.

A majority of the $463 million was restored, though House members elected to uphold $39 million in cuts to programs directly under the Governor’s control.

The overrides were not unexpected; House Speaker Michael Madigan and other representatives have been vocal critics of what many lawmakers, public service organizations and local leaders contend are unfair, politically motivated vetoes.

October 1, 2007

Springfield, IL – Beginning October 7, 2007 area residents currently served by area code 630 will be assigned a new 331 area code to augment the telephone number supply in that area. As a result, customers with a number from the 630 or 331 area code will be required to dial the full, 10-digit number (area code + seven digit number) for all calls.

State Senator Christine Radogno (R-Lemont) explained that the 630 area code officially reached “exhaust” early this summer, and although individual telephone numbers are still available there are no more unassigned prefixes.
